DOWNHILL home mountain list
License and credit. List version 2026-09-26, 793 ski areas.
The home mountain list used by DOWNHILL is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. That includes everything we added to it: our IDs, board labels, search aliases, merges and region codes. The full list is published with the game as downhill-mountains.js.
It is an adapted database of OpenSkiData, which is built from OpenStreetMap and Skimap.org and is available under the ODbL.

What we changed
- Kept ski areas in the United States, Canada and Mexico that are operating, have downhill skiing, have a name, and have at least 1 lift or 60 m of vertical. A few records were left out by hand (closed, private, tubing only, or placeholder names).
- Gave each area a permanent ID and a board label of up to 12 characters.
- Added search aliases, such as mt, mount and mont.
- Merged resorts that OpenStreetMap maps in parts: The Summit at Snoqualmie (Three Summits, Summit West, Alpental); Sun Valley (Sun Valley - Bald Mountain, Sun Valley - Dollar Mountain); Palisades Tahoe (Palisades Tahoe Olympic Valley, Palisades Tahoe Alpine Meadows); Val Saint-Côme (Station touristique Val Saint-Côme, Centre d'excellence acrobatique de Val Saint-Côme); Ski Eldorado (Ski Eldorado - Secteur St-Paul, Ski Eldorado - Secteur 10e Rang).
- Joined records that list the same area twice: Adanac Ski Hill; Mont Grand-Fonds; Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Area; Canaan Valley Resort.
- Cleaned a few names and chose one state or province for areas on a border.
Not covered
The DOWNHILL game itself (code, art and sound) and the scores on its boards are separate works, not part of this database.
